Stargazing Program Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Where: Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in cooperation with the Smoky Mountains Astronomical Society, will offer a 2 1/2 hour stargazing program in Cades Cove. Experienced astronomers and numerous telescopes will be on hand to provide a discovery of the autumn sky's position of stars, galaxies, and constellations; including the milkey way. In case of rain or cloud cover where night skies are not visible, the program will be cancelled.

Participants for the program should park near the exhibit shelter at the entrance to the Cades Cove Loop Road where a ranger will be to escort the group about one-third of a mile to a nearby field. Those planning to attend should dress warmly, and bring a flashlight and a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Also if you have a pair of binoculars, bring them, as they will help you in viewing the stairs when not using telescopes. Carpooling is strongly suggested.

Dinner Train Tribute To Elvis

5th Annual Youth Arts Festival - Jackson County

Over a thoudand children and their families are expected to flock to Jackosn County's Green Energy Park for the 5th Annual Youth Arts Festival, Saturday September 22 from 9 am until 3 pm.

The Jackson County's Green Energy Park and Western Carolina Univeristy's School of Art and Design engage participants in numerous hands-on imprompto art projects, and they enjoy various musical and dance groups performing from throughout the region.

Many local and regional artists will offer demonstrations and hands-on participation in pottery, weaving, painting, chalk art, recycled goods and many other arts mediums. Special demonstrations in glass-blowing and fine metal-working will be given center stage in the park's facilities.
