Friends of the Smokies guided hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park feature interpretation of the featured trail, history, and park projects supported by Friends of the Smokies. Near Bryson City. During the late 1800s and into the early 1900s Noland Creek was home to farmers and their families. Around 1905 the Harris-Woodbury Lumber Company purchased 17,000 acres but spared the Noland watershed from logging operations that scarred many other drainages in the area like Hazel and Eagle creeks. Surrounded by natural beauty, Steve Kemp, award-winning author and Smokies historian, will interpret the history and uses of the area. Moderate to strenuous due to 12 mile length.
