Southeastern Regional Championship Mountain Bike Race

Where: Tsali Recreation Area

This annual mountain bike race is a favorite of racers throughout the Southeast.  Held on the trails at the Tsali Recreation Area in Western North Carolina, some of the most famous trails in the Eastern US, this event has classes for all ages and levels with no prequalifying. Thousands of dollars in cash and prizes, series awards banquet.  More info

NOC Trail Festival

Thru-hikers and casual adventurers gather to celebrate the 2,181+ mile-long Appalachian Trail and support the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Join us for hiker-themed games, movies, lectures and prizes. And for anyone having trouble with their gear, check out the free repair area. More info

Hike the Smokies: Ramsey Cascades

Friends of the Smokies guided hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park feature interpretation of the featured trail, history, and park projects supported by Friends of the Smokies.
The Ramsey Cascades hike is 8.0 miles with a moderately strenuous 2,200 foot ascent and features wildflowers and cascades with the highlight of the hike being the treatment of ash trees.

The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad welcomes back The PEANUTS™ Easter Beagle Express! Train travels along the Tuckasegee River into the quaint town of Dillsboro for the 1 ½ hour layover. (total 4 hrs)

Easter Egg Hunt with tons of eggs, real and fake, filled with surprises (healthy alternatives to candy) and a Grand Surprise per group. Times: 10:00 am - Ages 3 and under; 10:20 am - 4-8; 10:40 am - 7-9; 11:00 am - 10-12; 11:30 am - special needs (all ages).

Egg dying stations with additional crafts (bring old clothes). Baby bunny rabbit photo booth (get your photos taken with real baby bunnies & baby lambs). Fun games like sack race, egg toss competition, tug of war, and more. Pets are welcome as long as they are good around people and other animals! More info

Oconaluftee Indian Village

Where: Oconaluftee Indian Village

Mon-Sat; closed Sundays. As you step into the Oconaluftee Indian Village, you’re transported back to witness the challenges of Cherokee life at a time of rapid cultural change. Tour guides help you explore the historic events and figures of the 1760's. Visitors can interact with villagers as they  participate in their daily activities. The Village also hosts live reenactments, interactive demonstrations, and Hands-On Cherokee Pottery for Kids classes. More info

National Junior Ranger Day

Where: Oconaluftee Visitor Center, Cherokee

Children and their families can join in a variety of free, hands-on activities including ranger-guided walks, historic toy making, talking to a real wildland firefighter, creating a personal bandana, visiting touch tables with animal skins, skulls, and scat.

Children can earn their free Junior Ranger patch by completing three specially planned activities. A Junior Ranger booklet is also available for those who would like to explore the park in more depth. The Junior Ranger booklets, produced in cooperation with Great Smoky Mountains Association, can be purchased for $2.50 each at park visitor centers. The booklets are designed to serve a variety of age targeted groups from 5-12.

Fly Tying Event at Nantahala Brewing Company

The brewery has created a new blueberry chocolate stout with good friend Mac Brown, one of the top fly fishing instructors in the country. The beer release will be in conjunction with a fly tying event at the brewery. All proceeds from sales will go to the scholarship fund of the Rotary Club of Bryson City. Bring your own vise and materials. All flies created will be donated to area kids.

13th Annual Wave Sport Nantahala Open

Brought to you by Team Wave Sport and Endless River Adventures, the Nantahala Open has gained the reputation of a fun competition; open to all boaters no matter the experience or ability, and consisting of categories for every skill level. Just stop by the staging area above Nantahala Falls and register. And don't forget the open house after party with music, beverages, and a screening of the day's footage. Prizes will be awarded to the winners, with the categories being determined before, during and after the competition. This event benefits Team River Runner. More info

Scheduled releases of the Cascades and Upper sections of the Nantahala River round out this action packed Bryson City weekend. More info
