Oconaluftee Indian Village

Where: Oconaluftee Indian Village

Mon-Sat; closed Sundays. As you step into the Oconaluftee Indian Village, you’re transported back to witness the challenges of Cherokee life at a time of rapid cultural change. Tour guides help you explore the historic events and figures of the 1760's. Visitors can interact with villagers as they  participate in their daily activities. The Village also hosts live reenactments, interactive demonstrations, and Hands-On Cherokee Pottery for Kids classes. More info

Birds of Prey Program

Traditional music with Larry Barnett & Blue Smith. Larry has played banjo, fiddle, mandolin or guitar in many bands, but most famously the Sawmill Creek Porch Band, a local favorite. Blue grew up in the bluegrass hills of Kentucky and also plays banjo, mandolin and guitar. He has shared the stage with Balsam Range, Michael Cleveland, Larry Keel, Town Mountain and many more. PMA, Positive Mental Attitude, was formed in Charlotte, NC during the summer of 2008 by long time friends Kyle Coleman, Matthew Yelen, and Phil Thomas and were later joined by Miller Watson in September, 2013, and finally auxiliary percussionist, Spencer Bradley, in late 2016. Gathering influences from Dub Reggae, Roots Reggae, and Alternative/Psychedelic sounds, PMA offers a unique style of music that is sure to lift your spirits. Music on Tap featuring Chalwa

Where: Nantahala Brewing Company, Bryson City

Chalwa is based out of Asheville, NC and plays original High Country Reggae. The band consists of a diverse all-star line-up of local musicians from bands such as the Asheville Horns, Hope Massive, Josh Phillips Folk Festival, Biodesiel, and the Everydays. After hitting the scene in 2006, Chalwa toured throughout the southeast US and Jamaica. The band has shared the stage with reggae greats such as: Midnite, Groundation, The Meditations, Bambu Station, SOJA, Pato Banton, and many more. Chalwa released it's first CD in 2009 and was voted one of the top World Music, Reggae bands by the MountainXress in 2010. In support of their CD the band performed a live set on-air interview on WNCW, along with radio air play on Dubatomic Particles and Local Color. Hosted on the grounds of the Museum of the Cherokee Indian, and featuring NC Arts Council Heritage Award winners and elders who typically aren't able to perform at festivals, yet do so here. Hike the Smokies: Charlies Bunion

Friends of the Smokies guided hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park feature interpretation of the featured trail, history, and park projects supported by Friends of the Smokies.
The Charlies Bunion hike is 8.0 miles with a moderately strenuous 1,650 foot ascent and features panoramic views and the Appalachian Trail with the highlight of the hike being the Appalachian Trail Ridgerunners.

Bass Tournament

XTERRA Tsali Off Road Triathlon

Where: Tsali Recreation Area, Bryson City

XTERRA Tsali Off Road Triathlon

 The ½ mile lake swim will start off the event as athletes will begin on East shore and swim out to a point in the lake marked with buoys and then back to the beach. After exiting the water the racers will face a short run to the transition area to begin the 5 mile run course on the "right loop alternate" trail. The mountain bike leg, which consists of a 10 mile loop will take the riders around the popular "left loop" to the finish in the transition area.   More info
